A practical guide for Thrissur district readers who want a recognized degree without attending daily classes: which courses fit which jobs, how fees are structured, and how to visit our Vadanappally centre.
If you live in Thrissur district and want a degree without attending a college every day, distance and online programmes from UGC-recognized universities are the realistic route. You can study B.Com, BBA, BCA, BA, B.Sc, MBA, MCA, M.Com or MSW while you keep working, provided the university is recognized and the programme has UGC-DEB entitlement for your admission year. Our Thrissur centre in Vadanappally handles the admission from start to finish and is the place to bring your documents.
This guide is written for people in the district: what to study, how fees work, and how to reach us.
Who comes to our Thrissur centre
Our Vadanappally centre sits on the coastal side of the district, and the people who walk in reflect that.
Men and women from the coastal belt, from Chavakkad and Engandiyur down to Nattika, Thalikulam and Triprayar, many with a husband, father or brother in the Gulf, or with Gulf years of their own behind them.
People working in Thrissur town in retail, accounts, jewellery showrooms, cooperative banks and private hospitals, who want a degree for the next step at work.
Women who stopped after the 12th or after a year of college, married, raised children, and now want to finish while the children are at school.
People who left a degree under Calicut University years ago and want to know whether those semesters still count.
None of these situations is unusual, and none needs a special explanation when you come in.
What these readers share is a fixed working week. A showroom employee in Thrissur town may have one weekday off and work every Sunday. A homemaker on the coast may have the hours between the school bus leaving and returning. A man back from the Gulf may be helping in a family business with no fixed hours at all. The first thing we ask is not which course you want but which hours of your week you can actually give to study, because the programme and its examination pattern should fit those hours.
Which course fits which plan
The choice should follow the job, not the other way round.
B.Com suits anyone in accounts, billing, banking or a family business. It also suits people working in Thrissur's trading and finance firms.
BBA suits people in sales, showroom management or operations who want a management grounding. Our comparison of BBA and B.Com for career growth helps if you are torn.
BCA or B.Sc suits people already doing computer-based work, from data entry to IT support.
BA suits people aiming at general Kerala PSC examinations or teaching-related paths, though you should read each notification carefully, as explained below.
MBA, M.Com, MCA or MSW are for graduates. The distance MBA is the most requested postgraduate programme at our centre.
The full list is on our courses page.
Thrissur's own options, honestly compared
Thrissur district's colleges are largely affiliated to the University of Calicut, and Kerala also has its own open university, Sree Narayanaguru Open University. Both are legitimate options and worth considering, particularly if you specifically want a Kerala state university degree.
The universities we place students into are outside Kerala: Bharathidasan University in Tamil Nadu, PRIST Deemed University in Tamil Nadu, Rabindranath Tagore University in Madhya Pradesh, and Plymouth Marjon University in the UK for an online MBA. People choose them for the programme range, the examination pattern, the admission timing or credit transfer from an unfinished degree. Recognition is not about which state the university is in. It depends on UGC recognition and the programme's DEB entitlement for your admission year, both of which you can check yourself on the universities page and the official sites listed at the end.
A word about Kerala PSC
Many people in Thrissur want a degree for a PSC examination. Under the UGC's 2020 regulations, a recognized distance or online degree is treated as equivalent to a regular degree. However, some posts have Special Rules that ask for a qualification earned through a regular course of study. In January 2026 the Kerala High Court confirmed that a distance degree does not satisfy that requirement. So if you have a specific post in mind, bring its notification when you visit and we will read it with you. Our guide to distance degrees and government jobs covers this in full.
How fees are structured
We do not publish fee figures in articles because they vary by university, programme and admission year, and an out-of-date number does more harm than none. What we can tell you is how the total is built.
Tuition, charged per year or per semester.
University registration or admission charges.
Examination fees for each semester or year.
Certificate charges at the end, and attestation charges if you will use the degree in the Gulf.
The counsellor gives you the full breakdown in writing, with the university and programme named, before you pay anything. Monthly instalments are available with no interest and no processing fee. Our piece on what a degree costs and how instalments work explains this further.
How to reach the Vadanappally centre
The centre is at Labba Building, 1st Floor, Beach Road, Vadanappally, Thrissur 680614. Vadanappally sits on the coastal highway between Chavakkad and Triprayar, and Beach Road runs from the town towards the sea.
From Thrissur town, private buses run to Vadanappally regularly. Get down at Vadanappally and walk or take an auto to Beach Road.
From Chavakkad, Guruvayur, Triprayar or Kodungallur, buses along the coastal highway stop at Vadanappally.
If you are unsure, call 92076 77828 before you set out and we will guide you.
Office hours are Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. Saturday is the busiest day, so a weekday visit usually means less waiting.
What to bring on your first visit
Bring originals and one set of photocopies where you have them.
10th and 12th certificates.
Degree marksheets, if you studied part of a degree, plus any transfer or migration certificate.
Aadhaar card.
Two or three recent passport-size photographs.
Your passport, if you work abroad or plan to.
Your ABC or APAAR ID, if you have created one.
Any document showing a change of name, such as a gazette notification or marriage certificate, if your name differs across certificates.
If you do not have everything, come anyway. A first conversation needs only your 12th certificate and an idea of what you want the degree for.
What happens after you decide
Once your documents are complete, we submit the application to the university and the enrolment number is usually issued within about 48 hours. From there you receive study material and access to the university's learner portal, and we keep you informed about assignment and examination dates. If you work long hours, set your weekly study hours before the first semester begins, not after.
